Selling to Federal, State and Local Governments offer Diverse businesses great business opportunities. Whether in manufacturing, construction, services, technology or R&D, the Government purchases everything from computer to medical services – from janitorial & landscaping services to engineering services. Each level of Government follows their particular process to purchase. Diverse Businesses should become familiar with the procedures used by a particular Government entity then determine if and how they can best compete. Don’t try to sell them all. If you are new, targeting a few and learn there systems and process. The first order will be the hardest to get.
The Federal government spends over $400 billion for goods and services per year per FY2007 statistics. The Federal procurement process directs purchases to be set aside for small business and businesses owned by socially or economically disadvantaged individuals, 8(a) business, Women Owned Small Businesses, Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses, Veteran-Owned Small Business and HUBZone Businesses located in areas of high unemployment and low income.
